Compassion Prize 2012

On Thursday afternoon, the 5th of April the Compassion Prize 2012 was handed out in the Mozes and Aaron church in Amsterdam.
The prize is part of the international campaign surrounding the Charter of Compassion, which was created through the initiative of the British writer Karen Armstrong.

This is the second year that the prize has been handed out on the initiative of four liberal protestant churches and the Mozeshuis.
This year the prize was awarded in the category of Sport and Movement.
People throughout the country nominated candidates (13 in total) who in diverse ways commit themselves to “soften the hearts and connect people with one another” through sports projects.

The prize was awarded to Ambrose Ongwen who teaches sports leaders in the Netherlands how they can deploy sports to resolve tense situations. Ongwen is also active in Seed of Peace Africa, which helps settle conflicts between young soldiers in countries such as Soedan and Oeganda through soccer competitions.

All the nominees received a pin that carries the image of the Flag of Compassion, a Flag whose only goal is to show and activate compassion in and through those who carry and see it.
